What is a mala?
A mala is a traditional meditation tool made from materials such as stone, seed, wood, or bone. Traditionally, malas contain 108 beads, though half and quarter malas are also common. A mala can be used in mantra (japa) meditation or worn as a meaningful reminder of intention and presence.
How do you meditate with a mala?
Find a comfortable seated position you can maintain without strain. Choose a mantra or phrase that resonates with you—this may be a traditional mantra or a simple affirmation. Begin by taking a few slow, steady breaths.
Hold your mala in a way that feels natural to you. Move bead by bead, repeating your mantra with intention. Over time, the repetition may shift from spoken words to silent awareness. When you reach the end, pause, sit quietly, and gently return to movement.
What makes Renovatio Beadworks malas unique?
Each mala is crafted using high-quality materials, including genuine stones, sacred woods, and seeds. They are hand-knotted using a durable double-stranding technique designed for longevity and everyday use. While malas are traditionally understood to break in their own time, each piece is made with care so it may accompany you through many seasons of practice.
Please note: malas are not designed to be tightly wrapped around the wrist. If you choose to wear one this way, do so loosely to avoid unnecessary strain.
Do you make custom malas?
Yes. Custom malas are available. You can learn more and begin the process here.
Do you offer jewelry repair services?
Yes. I offer repair services for malas and select jewelry pieces. Details and pricing are available here.
